Opening Speech of Dr. Utku Kanoğlu

On behalf of Tsunami Commission established in 1960, we are delighted to organize 26th of International Tsunami Symposium held on 25-27 September 2013, in Gocek, Turkey and with a separate session on September 28, 2013 in Rhodes, Greece,

The 2013 Symposium has provided a favorable venue for scientists, practitioners and decision makers, as witnessed by the wide distribution of countries and institutions and highest number of contributions in any ITS. 182 abstracts from 28  countries, i.e., Algeria,  Australia, Canada, China, France, Gambia, Germany, Greece, India, Indonesia, Israel,  Italy,  Malaysia, Mexico, Peru, Portugal, Puerto Rico, Romania, Russia, Singapore, South Africa,  Spain, Sri Lanka, Taiwan, Thailand, Turkey, the United Kingdom, the United States, were submitted and reviewed. 130 abstracts were selected for oral and 18 for poster presentations.

The organizers would like to express their appreciation and gratitude for invaluable support of sponsors. Our appreciation is extended to all participants, governors and municipalities in the region  (Fethiye, Marmaris and Gocek in Turkey; Rhodes in Greece), as well as to other interested local communities. We would like to convey our best wishes to all participants to experience an enjoyable and productive 26th International Tsunami Symposium.
